My Approach

Serving the song is the immovable core of what I do.

I'm also obsessed with the sonic details and textures on records that most people rarely notice. I equally love working with live musicians as I do playing around with sounds - the best of the human and the machine - fusing natural performances with electronic approaches and creative processing.

I spent 7 years playing keys with indie-folk band Speak Brother, for whom I produced quite a few songs. I’ve had a classical upbringing and also had a stint as a media composer, and I believe that’s engendered a cinematic sensibility in me and has shaped the way I want to be immersed by sound.

Ways we can work together

The 3-Course Meal

Complete end-to-end production through co-writing, pre-production, recording, and mixing. I usually outsource mastering to a preferred specialist I’ve used for years.

The Dessert Course

Mixing — my specialty. When your production needs a stellar mix, I’m ready to bring my A-game.

Light Lunch & Dessert

Mixing plus add prod. This is great for self-producing artists, when you need a creative collaborator, a separate brain and set of ears, or if you’ve gone as far as you want to go on your own.

At your disposal:

  • a network of some of the finest musicians, arrangers and studio collaborators to suit each song;

  • my studio, with its versatile semi-dry live room - great for fat, punchy drums, warm acoustic instruments, and intimate vocals, and its comfy control room and tasty Focal trio monitors;

  • access and preferential rates to other studios, when you need something bigger, closer to home or something that takes you out of your comfort zone!

About Me

I've been producing and mixing full time for 10 years now, and was playing, writing and performing music for 15 years prior to that. The keyboard was my first instrument, learning classical theory at school, picking the guitar up in my teens and have mostly played by ear since then. My band Speak, Brother has been my primary outlet for my own music in recent years.

My studio is part of 300 Acre Studios, a wonderful farm-based studio on the outskirts of Birmingham, UK.

I live close by with the lovely Emilie and my Golden Retriever Oscar. Emilie is a photographer and videographer who works under the name Transluceo. We run a production company called Once More With Feeling, who make live session videos - music performance videos filmed and recorded on location.

I’m a dog lover and love being outdoors, up a hill with a view. I love cooking (and eating!) and am partial to a round of golf, a good craft beer and heartfelt chats round a campfire with good friends.

I’d love to hear your music!

Fill me in on your project and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
